MacOS is not Metal API compatible

Description of the issue

Apple’s Metal API returns 0 Metal-enabled devices.

Please describe the issue here
The project is a MacOS app that uses Apple’s Metal API. The first this the code does is to check compatibility, but it’s not detecting any compatible hardware (GPU) to make use of the Metal API, therefore causes tests to fail (where Metal is involved).

Environment:

Where did the issue happen?
Tested on Bitrise:
Xcode 12.0.x, on macOS 10.15.5 (Catalina)
Xcode 11.6.x, on macOS 10.15.6 (Catalina)
Xcode 11.5.x, on macOS 10.15.3 (Catalina)

Local:
Xcode 11.5 (11E608c), on macOS 10.15.6 (Catalina)

Which build Step causes the issue and which version of the step?

XCode Test

Reproducibility

  • Does a “Rebuild” help? (You can trigger a rebuild from the Build’s page, by clicking the “Rebuild” button in the top right corner of a finished build) : NO
  • Does a rebuild without caches help? (You can remove the Cache:Pull and Cache:Push steps temporarily to not to use the cache, or you can delete all the caches on the Settings tab of the app. : NO
  • Does the issue happen sporadically, or every time? : Every time
  • Does upgrading the build Step to the latest version help? : NO
  • When did the issue start? : From the very first try

Local reproduction

Can it be reproduced on your own Mac/PC by following our local debug guide? Please follow at least the first section (“Testing with a full clean git clone”) to make sure to test the state of the code what bitrise.io will get when it does a git clone in the clean environment! If possible please note which sections you tried. No

Local reproduction: Linux / Android (docker based) stack builds

Hello @abraham-jj,

Metal graphics API will not work on our build VMs as there is no GPU acceleration. This means that the API will not be able to find a device to execute its functions and Metal is not currently supported. This likely to be the case with most virtualized environments that aren’t explicitly GPU accelerated.

I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused!
