Xcode build failed to find scheme in project

Bitrise Build Issue Report template

Description of the issue

I’ve been getting this error message “Failed to get scheme (failed to fetch project’s targets, error: Failed to found scheme () in project) build target dir, error: %!s(MISSING)”, although I’ve made sure that our scheme is shared. It has been working on another CI. It looks like I have to specify my target name but I don’t find it on the step config?

Environment:

Where did the issue happen?

Xcode 9.4.x, on macOS 10.13 (High Sierra)

Which build Step causes the issue and which version of the step?

Xcode build for simulator 0.9.1

Reproducibility

  • Does a “Rebuild” help? (You can trigger a rebuild from the Build’s page, by clicking the “Rebuild” button in the top right corner of a finished build) : NO
  • Does a rebuild without caches help? (You can remove the Cache:Pull and Cache:Push steps temporarily to not to use the cache, or you can delete all the caches on the Settings tab of the app. : NO
  • Does the issue happen sporadically, or every time? : EVERY TIME
  • Does upgrading the build Step to the latest version help? : NO, ALREADY THE LATEST
  • When did the issue start? : FROM THE BEGINNING

Local reproduction

Can it be reproduced on your own Mac/PC by following our local debug guide? Please follow at least the first section (“Testing with a full clean git clone”) to make sure to test the state of the code what bitrise.io will get when it does a git clone in the clean environment! If possible please note which sections you tried.

I can reproduce the exact error on my local with a fresh clone. But I’m still clueless about what’s the missing build config.

Hi @sthian !

If you have an xcworkspace project:
Please check that the scheme is shared in the .xcodeproj as well.

The step in this state tries to open the .xcodeproj and find the TARGET_BUILD_DIR for the scheme.

The Tooling Team is working on a patch for the step to fix this issue.
