We’ve introduced new, dedicated user roles in Release Management and updated existing permission behavior to give teams more control, improve security, and streamline collaboration.
Why This Matters
Previously, user permissions in Release Management were inherited directly from Bitrise CI/CD. This often meant broader access than intended, especially in larger teams. With this update, Release Management now supports its own role-based access model, giving teams finer control over who can view, manage, or test apps.
What’s Changing
We’ve introduced two new roles, and updated how access is managed across Release Management. Here’s a quick summary of who can do what:
-
Workspace Owner - Full visibility and control over all projects and apps across the workspace.
-
Project Admin - Full visibility and control to all apps within their assigned project.
-
Release Manager (New Dedicated Role) - Previously a permission, this is now a standalone role. Release Managers have visibility and rights to manage store releases for their assigned app(s) in Release Management.
-
App Tester (New Role) - A new, limited role for testers in Release Management. App Testers can only view the apps they are assigned to and download artifacts for testing.
A detailed overview of user permission can be found in our dev center here.
Migration: What Happens to Existing Users?
To support a smooth transition, we’re automatically migrating users to the new roles based on their existing permissions. Their roles in CI do not change. Here’s what happens to specific roles that are affected by the migration:
-
CI Admins → become Project Admins in Release Management
-
CI roles with Release Manager permission → become Release Managers
-
CI Developers, Tester/QA, and Platform Engineers without Release Manager permission → become App Testers
It is possible to update role assignments in your workspace or project collaboration settings. The old Release Manager menu has been removed from the Release Management interface.
What You Should Do
-
If your access looks different or more limited, check with your Workspace Owner, they can always update your role.
-
Please review the full role details in our Dev Center.

If you experience any unexpected issues, reach out to our Support Team.
We’ve done our best to minimize disruption, but we understand these changes may require a quick review of your team’s access settings.
