Bitrise now integrates more securely than ever with GitHub through our GitHub app. Furthermore, it’s fully integrated with GitHub Checks, meaning developers can use the familiar GitHub interface to quickly identify if their changes have affected any existing functionality.
What’s new?
Bitrise integrates seamlessly with GitHub to simplify your mobile development workflow. In the past, this integration was facilitated through an OAuth app. Starting today we are offering all GitHub users a new and improved way to connect to GitHub - through our GitHub app.
It’s available for all GitHub account types: personal, organization and enterprise, at no extra charge.
Connecting via GitHub app is good news for security teams, DevOps experts and developers alike because it delivers:
Enhanced security
Data security is a top priority for any organisation. The GitHub app uses short-lived tokens (lasting just a few hours) and allows users to specify precisely which repositories Bitrise can access (unlike the OAuth method which has access to all). These properties limit the damage that could be done if any credentials were leaked.
Improved developer workflow efficiency with GitHub Checks
Bitrise’s GitHub App is integrated with GitHub Checks out of the box. This means developers can use the familiar interface within GitHub to quickly identify if their changes have broken any existing functionality, improving workflow efficiency.
Reduced CI maintenance overhead
The GitHub App means you don’t need to set up an SSH key, service user or GitHub webhooks. This means there are fewer steps to complete when you set up a new Bitrise project and less ongoing maintenance.
Get started today!
The setup is simple - very much like adding an app from the Slack or Atlassian marketplaces. Simply follow the instructions in our Devcenter guide.
If you already have Bitrise apps configured to use the OAuth connection, don’t worry! You can switch over in just a few clicks.
